12 Days Primate and Birding Safari

This 12-Day Primate and Birding safari covers all of Uganda’s hotpots for primates including Bwindi Impenetrable forest for the endangered Mountain gorillas in Uganda. Most of the primates in Uganda are found in the forests. Above Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees and other primates, this tour will offer; beautiful flowers and plants of Uganda, butterflies including endemics, birds and birding, scenery/ canopy viewing and other animal species restricted to tropical forests of Uganda.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Today we arrive in Uganda at the Entebbe International Airport and begin our tour with an introduction to Uganda’s primates by visiting Entebbe botanical gardens in case we arrive early.

Day 2:

After an early breakfast, we will travel to Mabira central forest reserve which is about 54km East of Kampala. This forest is one of Uganda’s largest surviving natural central forest reserves covering an area of 306 sq km. we will explore the treasures of this forest using an extensive network of trails as we enjoy the Red-tailed Monkey, and other primates squabbling in the canopy of the forest. There are lots of butterflies, and birds (over 300 recorded species, including some of the Congo biome species). Overnight at the Mabira River Lodge

Day 3:

After an early breakfast, we shall move West to Kibale National park. This is bound to take us the whole morning. We shall have lunch in Fort Portal and continue to the forest while birding and primate watching on the main road. Kibale forest is the richest in Uganda in terms of primates with 13 primate species including the closest species to human beings, the Chimpanzees. The forest also boosts a bird list of about 325 species including 6 that are restricted to the Albertine Rift, over 200 species of butterflies and many other forest species.

Day 4:

We will assemble after an early breakfast for a briefing on the most thrilling activity in this park, Chimpanzee Tracking. Other primates that we are likely to see here include L’Hoest Monkey, Red Colobus Monkey, etc 12 Days Uganda Primate Safaris L’hoest Monkey Day 5: Today we start early with our packed lunch and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park. We will head direct to Maramagambo forest for a forest walk

Day 6:

We may decide to have another day with the chimpanzees in the Kyambura gorge in the morning or do a game drive in through the Kasenyi trail. Later in the afternoon, we shall go for a launch cruise at the Kazinga channel. We shall stay at Mweya Safari Lodge this night.

Day 7:

We start early after breakfast and drive for the rest of the day to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. We will hardly take any activity today, thus we shall check in our lodge for refreshments and prepare for once in a lifetime activity, Gorilla Tracking.

Day 8:

We shall have an early breakfast and assemble for a briefing for Gorilla Tracking in the forest, depending on the movements of these gentle giants, we may spend two to Seven hours of the day in the forest.

Day 9:

Transfer Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. We shall arrive there in time to have an afternoon walk to the viewpoint passing through beautiful mountain flowers and plants for scenery viewing.

Day 10:

Today after breakfast, we will go for Golden Monkey Tracking. We may also have a chance to meet the Blue Monkeys, Gorillas, Black and White Colobus Monkey, Forest Elephants, Giant Forest Hogs and stunning birds.

Day 11:

Travel back to Kampala

Day 12:

We may decide to visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) in Entebbe and Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary then fly back the next day or end our tour that very day and depart
