Elewana Elsa’s Kopje Meru
Elsa's Kopje Meru was Sculpted into Mughwango Hill, above the site of George Adamson's first camp where he nurtured and released orphaned lions long before conservation became trendy. Each cottage has a roomy bedroom, open living area, veranda, and bathroom with a verdant view of the cliffs. This camp is unabashedly romantic and exquisitely designed.
Stefano Cheli conceptualised and constructed Elsa's Kopje, which was formally inaugurated in 1999 by Virginia McKenna of Born Free fame and Dr. Richard Leakey, the then-director of the Kenya Wildlife Service. Liz & Stefano included Meru National Park, one of Kenya's most stunning parks, on the majority of their mobile-tented safaris.
The immense expanse of Elsa's Kopje, which is 870km2, or 215,000 acres, of true African terrain, offers visitors unrivalled isolation. The park is known for its big elephant herds, hippo, lion, and wildlife. Meru National Park is acknowledged as having the greatest variety of animal species of any park in East Africa. It also provides a flourishing rhino sanctuary.
Elsa's Kopje, a boutique resort that has won environmental awards, saved the harsh and inaccessible Meru National Park from annihilation. Elsa's Kopje, the winner of the Good Safari Guide's "Best Safari Property in Africa" title, is well known as one of the continent's most opulent lodges.
